The Stone House draws its inspiration from the tranquility of the woods, the need for privacy, and the desire to create a retreat away from the city. The design is divided into three distinct blocks - social, intimate, and service areas, each with its unique purpose and substance. The social area is designed with large glass frames that open up to a spacious porch overlooking the woods, providing an immersive nature experience while maintaining privacy with imposing stone walls.
What sets the Stone House apart is its thoughtful use of natural materials. The main materials used in this project were stone, glass, concrete, and wood. Two stone walls were erected, atop which a floating concrete ceiling was placed. The structure is based on prestressed beams that support a 12-meter span and hold large canopies of reinforced concrete. This blend of materials not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the house but also ensures its durability and longevity.
The Stone House is designed to offer a seamless interaction between its different areas. The social area can be completely integrated with the outdoors, while the private area connects the six bedrooms with a hallway that can also be accessed from the garden. The service area is completely isolated from the rest of the house, having its own entrance, thus ensuring a smooth flow of activities.
The project, which started in March 2016 and was completed in January 2018, has been recognized for its innovative design and architectural excellence. The Stone House was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade that acknowledges outstanding creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
In conclusion, the Stone House by Hueb Ferreira is a remarkable example of residential design that combines functionality, privacy, and a deep connection with nature. Its thoughtful use of natural materials, innovative design, and seamless interaction between different areas make it a deserving recipient of the Golden A' Design Award. This project serves as an inspiration for architects and designers worldwide, demonstrating the transformative power of architecture in enhancing lifestyle and connecting with nature.
